“In Cold Blood” is a murder mystery that takes place in the 50s, is a captivating story that accounts the true story of the Clutter case.
Even though the Clutters are introduced in the beginning of the the book and then killed, a closeness between the reader and the Clutters is formed, the reader becomes a part of the Clutter family.
Perry and his partner in crime Dick are the kind of characters that you can love to hate. These two men have been to prison. Perry was arrested for murder and Dick was arrested for theft. Dick and Perry met in prison and became friends, not close friends but friends all the same.
It was Dicks idea to kill the Clutters, he wanted to money that he believed the Clutters had. Perry was brought along for the ride when Dick got out of prison and wanted Perry to go on a “treasure hunt” with him, little did Perry know at the time he was in for far more than a treasure hunt.
After Perry and Dick kill the Clutters they go home. Dick goes to his parents house and Perry returns to his hotel.
The investigation of the Clutter case continues through Christmas- Clutters were murdered in November. It was early December when the investigators in the Clutter case were tipped of f as to the where-abouts of Dick and Perry.
Dick was the first to confess that it was Perry and himself that had committed the crime, and-telling the police investigators that the murder was Perry’s idea-Perry confessed on the way to prison telling the whole story even details that were not needed.
Dick and Perry were tried and sentenced to die. The two of them spent years in prison before they were finally “hung by the neck until dead”.
