Library Corner October 20, 2013

There will be “Trick and Treating” at the library from 4 until 6 p.m. this Halloween, October 31st.  Children 12 and under can “trick and treat” our Circulation Desk and then proceed to the Children’s Room where the first 35 will be able to make and take a decorated pumpkin.

Movie Night @ the Library will be October 22nd at 7 p.m. with a showing of The Cheap Detective in the Community Room.   This movie parodies old gangster films and movies like Casablanca, and The Maltese Falcon. Even if you haven’t seen those classics, it still supplies a ton of laughs. Pop corn will be served.

The Bradley County Community Cinema: Documentaries/Short Films @ the Library will be showing an Evening of Short Films in the Community Room, October 24th at 7 p.m.  Short films are the movie equivalent of short stories, and the challenge is to tell a complete – and hopefully engaging – story in a limited amount of time. Like short stories, short films are an art in and of themselves, for like short stories, they require greater discipline than one would need for a longer work. These five short live-action films were the ones nominated for the Academy Award in that category for 2012.

Friends of the Library Association’s Fall Author Luncheon reservations are still being accepted at the library for October 24th at the Cleveland Country Club.  Merchant’s Alley will include: Orange Blossom, Bryant’s Garden Center, Silpada Jewelry, Cleveland Therapeutic Massage, Red Ribbon, The Shoe Tree, Audrey Lea’s Ladies Boutique, Miche purses, Arbonne Cosmetics, Premiere Jewelry and NYR Organics.  The cost for the luncheon is $35 per person.

Due to a change in the library’s automation system, the library will be closed from November 11th until November 15th.  No items checked out will be due during this closure.  The library will reopen at 9 a.m. on November 15th.
